Is Suno AI Free? What the Free Plan Lets You Do
Is Suno AI free? Yes, 50 credits a day, but free songs are non-commercial, Suno keeps ownership, and new accounts get no set downloads. Checked 4 November 2026.
It is easy to assume that a song you can make on Suno for free is a song you can use. Suno’s help center says otherwise: on the free plan, “we retain ownership of the songs you generate”, and you may use those songs for non-commercial purposes only, per its article Does Suno own the music I make? (edited 7 January 2026). So is Suno AI free? To make and share songs, yes. To own, download or earn from them, no.
I read Suno’s pricing page and its help articles on credits, downloads and rights on 4 November 2026. A free account opened on or after 3 September 2026 gets no fixed number of downloads, and a subscription started later does not license a song you already made on Free. My view is that Suno’s free plan is for making songs and sharing them by link, so subscribe before you make the song you plan to release, and never count on upgrading afterwards.
Is Suno AI Free?
Yes, to make songs. Suno’s Free plan costs $0 and gives 50 credits a day, which Suno says is enough for 10 songs. Using those songs is restricted: they are personal and non-commercial, Suno keeps ownership, downloads are limited to MP3 trial or bought downloads, and upgrading later does not license them by default.
Suno Free vs Pro vs Premier, Checked 4 November 2026
Suno’s pricing page opens on annual billing, so its cards show Pro at $8 and Premier at $24 a month, with “Saves $24 by billing yearly!” and “Saves $72 by billing yearly!” under them. The monthly-billed prices come from the price data embedded in the same page’s HTML, which lists $10 and $30 a month against $96 and $288 a year. Suno’s credits article says annual subscriptions are “discounted 20% vs the monthly plan”, which matches: $96 is 20% less than 12 x $10.
| Free | Pro | Premier | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Billed monthly | $0 | $10 a month | $30 a month |
| Billed yearly | $0 | $96 a year ($8 a month) | $288 a year ($24 a month) |
| Credits | 50 a day | 2,500 a month | 10,000 a month |
| Models | ”Best free model (v6-mini)“ | v6 and v6-wild | v6 and v6-wild |
| Song downloads | ”No monthly song downloads” | 20 a month | 60 a month |
| Commercial rights | No | Yes | Yes |
| Generations at once | 4, in a shared queue | 10, in a priority queue | 10, in a priority queue |
| Audio upload | Up to 8 minutes | Up to 30 minutes | Up to 30 minutes |
| Stem separation | None | 2 types | 3 types |
| Suno Studio | No | No | Yes |
| Add-on credits | ”Not available” | Available to purchase | Available to purchase |
The same page adds rules that change the maths:
- “Credits included in subscriptions do not carry over from day to day or month to month.”
- “Purchased top up credits do not expire, but require an active subscription to use.”
- If a subscriber runs out of monthly credits, the page’s FAQ says “you’ll automatically get 50 bonus credits per day until your billing cycle renews.”
Paid prices carry “Taxes calculated at checkout”. Suno’s prices and limits can change, so check the pricing page on the day you subscribe.
What the Suno Free Plan Lets You Do With a Song
This table lists each thing you might do with a song, by plan and by sign-up date. The Free cells come from the Suno help article named in the last column; the Pro and Premier cells come from the same article or, for personal use, Suno’s paid rights article.
| What you want to do | Free, joined before 3 Sep 2026 | Free, joined on or after 3 Sep 2026 | Pro or Premier | Suno article (edited) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Make songs | 50 credits a day | 50 credits a day | Monthly credits (plan table above) | Free plan rights (17 Dec 2025) |
| Keep a song Link-Only, publish it to your Suno page, share the link | Yes | Yes | Yes | Same |
| Use a song in a personal project that earns nothing | Yes | Yes | Yes | Same |
| Download | Up to 7 trial downloads, plus paid downloads | ”May occasionally receive trial downloads”, plus paid downloads | 20 (Pro) or 60 (Premier) a month | How do downloads work? (3 Sep 2026) |
| Use a trial download commercially | No | No | Not applicable | Same |
| Own the song | No: “we retain ownership” | No | Yes, if subscribed when it was made | Does Suno own the music I make? (7 Jan 2026) |
| Monetize or send it to Spotify | No | No | Yes, through any distributor | Can I distribute my songs to Spotify, etc? (17 Dec 2025) |
| Subscribe later and monetize an old free song | Not by default | Not by default | Not applicable | Retroactive rights (17 Dec 2025) |
| Cancel and keep the rights | Not applicable | Not applicable | Yes, for songs made while subscribed | Same |
The lyrics are a separate question. Suno’s lyrics ownership article says that if you wrote the lyrics, “you own those lyrics. Regardless of which plan you’re using”. The recording Suno generated from them still follows the plan rules above.
Suno Free Credits per Day: What 50 Buys
Suno’s plan-type article says the Free plan’s 50 daily credits are “enough to make 10 songs per day”, which works out to 5 credits a song (my arithmetic). Its credit reset article says up to 50 credits are replenished once daily on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), and a second article adds that if you use 10 credits on Saturday, “you will still start with 50 credits on Sunday”. Unused free credits never stack.
| Free | Pro | Premier | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Credits | 50 a day | 2,500 a month | 10,000 a month |
| Songs at 5 credits each (my arithmetic) | 10 a day; up to 300 in a 30-day month | About 500 a month | About 2,000 a month |
| Unused credits | Lost at the next daily reset | Lost at the next monthly reset | Lost at the next monthly reset |
| When the allowance runs out | Wait for the next UTC reset | 50 credits a day until renewal | 50 credits a day until renewal |
The 300 a month on Free assumes you use the full 50 every single day; miss a day and those 10 songs are gone. Pro’s 2,500 arrive as one monthly allotment. Apple’s App Store India listing describes the Pro plan as “500 songs/mo” and Premier as “2,000 songs/mo”, the same figures the 5-credit rate gives.
Suno publishes its free allowance as a number, which not every AI tool does: Notion, for one, does not say how many complimentary AI responses its trial includes, as I found when checking whether Notion AI is free.
Can You Download Songs on Suno Free?
Only as trial or bought downloads, and how many trial downloads you get depends on when you signed up. Suno’s downloads article, edited on 3 September 2026, splits free users by that date:
- Joined before 3 September 2026: “up to 7 trial downloads with the ability to purchase additional downloads”.
- Joined on or after 3 September 2026: “may occasionally receive trial downloads, and will also have the ability to purchase downloads”.
- Either group: “Trial downloads are not eligible for commercial use.”
The rest of the download rules, from Suno’s help center:
| Rule | What Suno says | Article (edited) |
|---|---|---|
| Format on Free | ”the Download button will generate a lightweight mp3” | Why can’t I download wav files? (19 Dec 2025) |
| WAV files | ”only available for Pro and Premier subscribers”, and only on suno.com; mobile downloads default to MP3 | Same |
| Trial downloads over time | ”will roll over, but will not top up in future months” | Do download credits roll over? (3 Sep 2026) |
| Bought downloads | ”Individual download purchases and download pack purchases will roll over” | Same |
| Pro and Premier allowances | 20 and 60 a month, which “do not roll over” | Same |
| Suno Studio | ”Workflows in Suno Studio will not be subject to download limits” | How do downloads work? (3 Sep 2026) |
One wording clash to know about: the pricing page’s Free card says “No add-on credit purchases”, while the downloads article says free users can buy downloads. Suno’s help center treats credits and downloads as separate items, and Apple’s App Store India listing sells them separately too (see the India section below).
Is Suno AI Free for Commercial Use?
No. Suno’s free plan rights article says songs made on the free plan “are only intended for personal, non-commercial use” and “cannot be monetized”. Its distribution article spells out what a subscription adds:
- Songs made while subscribed to Pro or Premier can go to Spotify, Apple Music and other services “using the distributor of your choice”, and into content you post to YouTube or TikTok.
- You do not have to credit Suno.
- You must be “the exclusive rights holder of 100% of the material”, and Suno warns against monetizing a song that uses someone else’s lyrics.
Suno’s commercial use article says a paid plan lets you “collect 100% of the royalties without claiming a share”. Its paid rights article, edited 3 September 2026, adds a limit: “granting commercial use rights does not guarantee copyright protection”, which is up to your country’s copyright office.
Midjourney draws the line differently: its plan footnote says that if you have “subscribed at any point”, you are free to use your images “in just about any way you want”, as I quoted in my breakdown of Midjourney’s free options. On Suno, what counts is the plan you held when the song was made.
Upgrading Later Does Not License a Free Song
Suno’s retroactive rights article says: “Subscribing to a Pro or Premier plan does not give you retroactive commercial use licensing for the songs made with a free plan by default.” It adds that Suno “may offer retroactive rights in certain cases, but this is not guaranteed and applies only to specific songs.”
The other timing rules:
| Situation | Rights | Article |
|---|---|---|
| Song made on Free, then you subscribe | Non-commercial, unless Suno grants an exception | Retroactive rights |
| Song made while subscribed, then you cancel | You “retain the rights to the songs you made while subscribed” | Same |
| Song made with the 50 daily credits after a subscriber’s monthly credits ran out | Commercial, “as long as you are still subscribed” | What happens if I use all of my paid credits? |
| Song made after your plan reverts to the free tier | ”not eligible for commercial use” | Same |
Suno’s articles do not phrase the trigger the same way. The distribution and ownership articles tie rights to songs “made” or “created” while subscribed, while the paid rights article edited on 3 September 2026 says “Songs downloaded while subscribed are granted commercial use rights”. If a song matters, make it and download it while your subscription is active, and read Suno’s Terms of Service (effective 3 September 2026) before you distribute it.
Suno Price in India: Rupees on the App Store
Suno’s pricing page lists US dollars, and its payments article (edited 19 December 2025) lists INR among accepted currencies and UPI among its “Other available methods”. It also says a plan bought through Google Play or the App Store “will apply to both the mobile app and our web version of Suno”. The article publishes no rupee plan price.
The rupee prices below are from Apple’s App Store India listing for the Suno app, provider Suno Inc., read on 4 November 2026. They are Apple’s charges for in-app purchases, not prices from suno.com:
| In-app purchase on App Store India | Price |
|---|---|
| Pro Plan (“Advanced tools & 500 songs/mo”) | ₹999 |
| Premier Plan (“Full creative suite & 2,000 songs/mo”) | ₹2,999 |
| Pro Plan, second listing | ₹9,900 |
| 500 Credits | ₹399 |
| 1000 Credits | ₹799 |
| 2000 Credits | ₹1,499 |
| 4000 Credits | ₹2,999 |
| 1 Download Credit (two listings) | ₹299 and ₹499 |
| 3 Download Credits | ₹999 |
The listing does not name a billing period for either plan, does not say what the ₹9,900 Pro Plan entry covers, and does not explain why two single-download items carry different prices. Suno’s pricing page says purchased top-up credits need an active subscription to use. Perplexity follows the same pattern of dollar pricing on its website and rupee prices on the App Store, which I set out in Perplexity Pro’s routes in India.
If you are comparing Suno with a voice tool that also generates music, ElevenLabs bills per credit across its products; its India prices and per-minute costs are in my ElevenLabs price in India breakdown.
Which Suno Plan to Pick
Decision rules from Suno’s own pages:
- You make songs for fun and share them by link: Free covers it, up to 10 songs a day.
- A song might end up on Spotify, YouTube with ads, or in client work: subscribe before you make it. Pro, at $10 a month, is the lower-priced of the two plans with commercial rights, and it includes 20 downloads a month and WAV files on suno.com.
- You need more than 20 downloads a month, three stem types or Suno Studio: Premier, at $30 a month or $288 a year.
- You joined Free before 3 September 2026: your trial downloads still roll over, but they are not for commercial use.
So is Suno AI free? To make songs, yes; to release one, the plan you hold on the day you make it decides. Before you subscribe, check the edit date on Suno’s downloads article.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Suno AI free?
Yes, to make songs. On 4 November 2026 Suno's Free plan cost $0 and gave 50 credits a day, which Suno's help center says is enough for 10 songs. Free songs are for personal, non-commercial use only, Suno keeps ownership of them, and the pricing page lists no monthly song downloads on Free.
Can you download songs on the Suno free plan?
Only as trial or bought downloads, in MP3. Suno's downloads article, edited 3 September 2026, says free users who joined before 3 September 2026 have up to 7 trial downloads, while those who joined on or after that date may occasionally receive some. Free users can also buy downloads, and trial downloads are not eligible for commercial use.
Is Suno free for commercial use?
No. Suno's help center says songs made on the free plan are for personal, non-commercial use and cannot be monetized. Commercial use, including distribution to Spotify or Apple Music, needs a Pro or Premier subscription when the song is made.
If I subscribe to Suno later, can I monetize songs I made on the free plan?
Not by default. Suno's help center says a Pro or Premier subscription does not give retroactive commercial use licensing for free-plan songs, and that it may offer retroactive rights in certain cases, with no guarantee. Songs you make while subscribed keep their rights after you cancel.
How much is Suno in India?
Suno's website lists prices in US dollars: Pro at $10 a month or $96 a year, Premier at $30 a month or $288 a year. Apple's App Store India listing showed Pro at ₹999 and Premier at ₹2,999 on 4 November 2026, without naming the billing period, and Suno's payments article lists INR and UPI among accepted options.
