ChatGPT Go vs Gemini: What Rs 399 Buys in India

ChatGPT Go vs Gemini in India, read on 25 October 2026: Go and Google AI Plus both cost Rs 399 a month. Models, storage, ads, Gmail and free routes compared.

Renaissance-style still life of sealed letters, a quill and an open ledger by a window, one red wax seal

ChatGPT Go and Google AI Plus both cost ₹399 a month when I read the two vendors’ prices logged out from an Indian connection on 25 October 2026 (Cloudflare’s trace returned loc=IN). The first difference a buyer weighing ChatGPT Go vs Gemini would notice is storage: Google AI Plus comes with 400 GB across Gmail, Drive and Photos, and OpenAI’s pricing table has no storage row at all.

The same pairing works one tier up, where ChatGPT Plus at ₹1,999 sits ₹49 above Google AI Pro at ₹1,950. Because the prices match, I would decide on the bundle each vendor attaches to the price, and the bundles differ more than the model names suggest: Google adds storage, Gmail and video credits, and OpenAI adds higher limits than Free on tools, uploads, images and memory, on the same GPT-6 Luna model and unlimited text chats that ChatGPT Free already has, with a pricing card that says Go “may include ads”.

ChatGPT Go vs Gemini at ₹399: Google AI Plus Row by Row

At ₹399, Google AI Plus moves you from the free plan’s Flash-Lite model to Flash and adds 400 GB of storage, while ChatGPT Go keeps ChatGPT Free’s model and raises its limits. Every cell below is from the vendor’s own page, read on 25 October 2026.

The ChatGPT column comes from the plan cards and comparison table on OpenAI’s pricing page and from OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go article, which says “Free and Go users both have unlimited everyday text chats” and that Go raises limits on “image generation, file uploads, and data analysis”. The Google column is from the AI Plus card and footnotes on the India plan page.

The rows I would weigh first at this price:

  • Storage has no ChatGPT counterpart. If your Google account is near its free 15 GB, AI Plus is a storage upgrade with Gemini attached, and ChatGPT Go cannot do that job.
  • Gemini inside Gmail starts at AI Plus, while Gemini inside Docs starts one tier up, at AI Pro. Google’s AI Plus card names “Gmail, Vids and more”, and its AI Pro card names “Gmail, Docs, Vids and more”. Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) limits also rise with each Google AI plan, and the notebook and source caps per plan show how far AI Plus takes them.
  • Ads are a ChatGPT-side question only. OpenAI’s ads FAQ says “Ads may appear for users on the Free and Go plans”, and Google’s plan cards have no ads line for the Gemini app. OpenAI’s own pages disagree on whether Go shows ads today: the Go article says OpenAI “may start testing ads in ChatGPT Go in the future”, while the pricing card already says it may include them. My ChatGPT Go vs Plus comparison sets out that disagreement and which page to trust.

ChatGPT Plus vs Google AI Pro at About ₹2,000

ChatGPT Plus costs ₹1,999 a month and Google AI Pro ₹1,950, so Google is ₹49 cheaper by the month and much cheaper by the year, because Plus has no yearly plan and AI Pro does.

Yearly billingNone: the pricing page’s FAQ offers annual plans “for Business and Enterprise” only₹19,500 a year on Google One’s plans page, shown as “save ₹3,900”
Free route open in IndiaNone on OpenAI’s India pricing pageJio’s 18-month offer for eligible Jio users

The yearly row is where the prices separate. Twelve monthly Plus payments come to ₹23,988, and a year of AI Pro bought on Google’s yearly plan is ₹19,500 (the same figure as Google AI Ultra 20x’s monthly price, by coincidence), which is ₹4,488 less (my arithmetic on the two vendors’ prices). Google’s India plan page also says “Cancel at any time. No refunds for partial billing periods, except as required by applicable law”, so a yearly plan is a year’s commitment in practice.

If your alternative at this price is Claude rather than Gemini, the Claude vs ChatGPT comparison sets Claude Pro against ChatGPT Plus.

ChatGPT Pro 200 vs Google AI Ultra at the Top

The top tiers pair less cleanly. On 25 October 2026:

  • ChatGPT Pro 200 at ₹19,900 and Google AI Ultra at ₹19,500 a month for “20x higher usage limits vs AI Pro” are the nearest match, ₹400 apart.
  • Google’s other Ultra price, ₹6,500 a month for “5x higher usage limits vs. AI Pro”, falls between ChatGPT Plus and Pro 100, with no ChatGPT plan at the same price.
  • Pro 100 and Pro 500, priced in the ChatGPT price list linked under the lead table, have no Google plan at the same price.
  • OpenAI’s Pro card offers “Your choice of 3 usage tiers” with “Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra”. Google’s Ultra card lists “Highest access to Gemini 4 Argon”, Project Genie, a YouTube Premium individual plan and “Cloud storage starting at 20 TB”.

ChatGPT vs Gemini: Which Is Better?

On published features and prices, neither is better across the board: at the same ₹399, Google AI Plus lists 400 GB of storage, the Flash model and Gemini inside Gmail, while ChatGPT Go lists higher limits than Free on images, uploads and memory (GPT-6 Luna and unlimited everyday text chats are already on Free). Which is better for you depends on which of those rows you will use each week; this comparison is from the two plan pages only and runs no same-prompt test.

If the model name is what you are buying, the matched pair is ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Pro: Google’s India plan page puts Gemini 4 Argon on AI Pro and Ultra under the label “Includes Gemini 4 Argon”, and OpenAI’s pricing table starts GPT-6 Sol at Plus. Whether AI Plus also unlocks Google’s Pro model is a point Google’s own pages disagree on; my Google AI Plus student guide quotes both sides.

Free Routes Still Open in India

Before paying ₹399, check the free routes, as of 25 October 2026:

  • ChatGPT Go free: closed to new sign-ups. OpenAI’s release notes say of the India offer, “as of January 21, 2026, the promo has ended”. If you redeemed it, what happens when the free Go year ends covers the renewal charge from 4 November 2026.
  • Google AI Plus for students: Google’s India student page offers a one-year AI Plus student plan at no cost to eligible university students aged 18 and above, “Redeem until 31 December 2026”, after which it charges ₹399 a month unless cancelled.
  • Google AI Pro through Jio: Jio’s terms close the claim window on 29 October 2026 unless Jio extends it; the Jio Gemini Pro offer guide has who qualifies and what month 19 costs.

The free plans compare like this on the two pricing pages:

Free planChatGPT FreeGemini free
Model named”Unlimited text chats with GPT-6”; GPT-6 Luna: “Yes""Access to our Flash-Lite model”
Images”Limited image creation""Image generation and editing”
Deep research”Limited deep research""Deep Research”

Google AI Plus Since Its India Launch

Reports written when AI Plus launched in India describe a different plan from the one on sale now. ETV Bharat’s launch report of 10 December 2025 listed:

DetailAt launch, per ETV Bharat (10 December 2025)On Google’s India plan page, 25 October 2026
Price₹399 a month, or ₹199 a month for the first six months for new users₹399 a month, with no introductory price shown
Storage200 GB400 GB
ModelGemini 3 Pro”Access to our Flash model”
Google appsGemini in “Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and more""Gemini in Gmail, Vids and more”

So a comparison written at launch understates the storage, and its model line no longer matches Google’s plan card, which now names only Flash for AI Plus (Google’s help article still lists Pro).

ChatGPT Go vs Gemini: Decide on the Bundle

ChatGPT Go vs Gemini at ₹399 is a tie on price, so the bundle decides it: pick Google AI Plus if your Google account is near 15 GB, and ChatGPT Go if you hit ChatGPT Free’s limits on uploads, images or memory and can accept a plan OpenAI says may include ads.

Prices and plan contents on both pages change. Before you pay, open Google’s India plan page and OpenAI’s pricing page logged out and confirm that both still read ₹399.
