Claude Certifications: Architect, Associate and Developer

17 min read

Claude certifications as of 16 October 2026: Associate, Developer and Claude Certified Architect exams, $99 to $175, for partner staff; free courses for the rest.

Renaissance-style landscape of a mountain path climbing toward a monastery in morning light, a red cloak on the trail

Claude certifications are “open to organizations in the Claude Partner Network,” according to Pearson VUE’s Anthropic page, last updated 2 October 2026; Pearson delivers the exams for Anthropic. Everyone else can take Anthropic’s free Claude Academy courses, where a passed course quiz earns a certificate of completion, and Anthropic’s own eligibility page calls that certificate and a certification “two different things.”

Most fees and formats that third-party guides print match Anthropic’s own pages. The access rule decides which of this page’s numbers apply to you, so I would settle which door you stand behind before comparing exams: only one of the three below leads to a Pearson booking.

Anthropic runs four Claude certifications, proctored Pearson exams taken online or at a test center: Associate (CCAO-F, $99), Developer (CCDV-F, $125), Architect - Foundations (CCAR-F, $125) and Architect - Professional (CCAR-P, $175). A pass earns a Credly badge. Only Claude Partner Network staff can register. Claude Academy’s 27 courses, 15 with a completion badge, are open to anyone and are not certifications.

Eleven Claims Checked Against the Official Pages

Eight of them come from third-party guides and three from Anthropic’s own pages, each checked logged out from India against Anthropic’s July announcement, the Partner Academy’s certification page, exam pages, FAQ and exam guides, and Pearson’s page:

Anthropic’s July announcement says every path “starts with a foundation-level certification and advances to the professional-level”, but three of the four exam guides list “no mandatory prerequisites”, and the FAQ says “you can take Professional without holding Foundations"
"CCA-F” as an exam codeLearning Tree’s press release (27 August 2026) uses it for the Associate; a post embedded in Purcell’s review uses it for the Architect examNeither. Pearson’s page and the exam guides use CCAO-F for the Associate and CCAR-F for Architect - Foundations
Nothing about who can registerK21 Academy’s guide, on which the word “partner” does not appearPartner staff only. The FAQ: “Registration requires a partner email address on a recognized company domain”, and “personal email addresses will not work"
"Check out Anthropic Academy to get Claude certified”Anthropic’s own partners pagePartner route only. The link opens the Partner Academy certification page, “built exclusively for Anthropic Partners”, whose “Not an Anthropic partner?” link points back to the partners page
You may cancel or reschedule “up to 24 hours before your appointment”Anthropic’s four exam guides, version 1.0Contradicted by Pearson’s page and the FAQ, which both require at least 48 hours. Plan on 48
”The exam and prep content are available in English only”Anthropic’s certification FAQContradicted for the exams. The certification page and all four exam pages list the language as “English, Japanese”, and the certification page says “You choose your exam language when you schedule”

Four of the eleven hold up as written. The FAQ also dates three changes to 30 June 2026: a price rise for Architect - Foundations, the 12-month validity and the move to Pearson and Credly.

Who Can Take a Claude Certification Exam?

People who work at a Claude Partner Network organization, and as of 16 October 2026 nobody else. The FAQ answers “Can customers or non-partners get certified?” with “Certification is currently available only to organizations in the Claude Partner Network.”

Decision diagram of Claude certification access on 16 October 2026: partner staff register and book a Pearson exam, services firms can apply to the Claude Partner Network, and everyone else can earn Claude Academy certificates of completion, not certifications

Door 1: Your Organization Is in the Claude Partner Network

  1. If you cannot confirm that it is, the eligibility page says to ask “the person who manages your organization’s Anthropic partnership” or to email partner-support@anthropic.com.
  2. Sign in to the Anthropic Partner Academy with a company email on a domain listed in your organization’s partner record, “because a personal address won’t work.” Adding a missing domain usually takes 7 to 10 days.
  3. Register for the exam and pay by credit card. Registered-tier partners pay full price; Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners get 50% off at checkout, and Global Premier partners get 100% off through 31 December 2026.
  4. Book your slot through the Pearson link Anthropic emails you, online or at a test center.

Anthropic’s July announcement names 16 firms in the network with certification targets, from Fractal’s 2,000 practitioners to Accenture’s 50,000, with Infosys, TCS and Wipro at 10,000 each. If you work at a large IT services firm, check that list before asking around. The FAQ adds that a certification moves with you if you change organizations, and suggests adding a personal email address to your Credly profile.

Door 2: Your Company Serves Clients but Is Not a Partner

The Claude Partner Network application page says a company should:

  • “Be a registered business with 10 or more employees”
  • “Operate in a supported region”
  • “Offer consulting, implementation, or managed services to customers”

Anthropic’s July announcement covers cost and tiers:

  • Cost: “Membership is free.”
  • Tiers: standing “combines certified practitioners with deployed customers and public customer references.” The top tier, Global Premier, requires 1,000 certified practitioners, 100 customers across three regions and 15 public customer endorsements.

Door 3: Everyone Else, Freelancers Included

The eligibility page is direct about it: “You can’t register for a certification exam.” Where that leaves you:

  • Freelancers: a solo practice cannot meet the application page’s 10-employee line.
  • Product companies: the application page says, “Building a product on Claude rather than delivering services? Get started with the Claude API instead.”
  • Companies with an Anthropic account team: the eligibility page says that team “can also record your organization’s interest in certification.”
  • Still open to you: each exam guide, a PDF linked from a public exam page, and Claude Academy’s free courses.

What Are the Claude Certifications?

They are four role-based, proctored exams that Anthropic runs with Pearson; three of them were announced on 23 July 2026, and Architect - Foundations already existed.

CertificationCodeWho the exam guide says it is forQuestionsFee (USD), 16 October 2026Counts toward partner tier?
Claude Certified Associate - FoundationsCCAO-F”professionals who use Claude as a productivity tool in roles such as operations, marketing, project management, education, and communications”60$99No
Claude Certified Developer - FoundationsCCDV-F”technical professionals who build, integrate, and ship production-grade AI solutions”, with one to five years of software engineering recommended53$125Yes
Claude Certified Architect - FoundationsCCAR-F”a solution architect who designs and implements production applications with Claude”60$125Yes
Claude Certified Architect - ProfessionalCCAR-P”mid- to senior-level technical professionals who design, build, and deliver production-grade AI solutions”63$175Yes

Sources: the exam guides for the audience lines and question counts, the certification page and FAQ for the fees, and the FAQ’s list of “Exams that do not count towards Claude Partner Network eligibility” for the last column. Pearson’s page names the roles “Practitioner, Architect, and Developer”, while Anthropic’s pages say Associate, Developer and Architect.

Rules the exams share, from the FAQ, the exam guides, the exam pages and Pearson’s page:

  • 120 minutes for the questions and “about 135 minutes of total seat time”; multiple choice and scenario-based multiple response; closed book; in English or Japanese, chosen when you schedule.
  • Online through Pearson’s OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson test center, at 18 or older, with a government-issued ID checked at check-in.
  • A scaled score from 100 to 1,000 with 720 to pass, shown on screen when you finish, plus a per-section percentage on the score report.
  • Retakes after waits of 14, 30 and 90 days, up to four attempts per exam in a rolling 12 months, each charged at the full fee less any tier discount.
  • After you register and pay, you have 5 years to schedule and sit the exam; a pass is valid for 12 months. On-time renewal is “a free, non-proctored assessment”; a lapsed credential means the full exam at the full fee. The FAQ says full renewal details are still to come, and the exam guides say Anthropic may require a full retake if exam content changes significantly.
  • No official practice exam since the move to Pearson; each guide carries sample questions.
  • A notice on every exam page, including the Associate exam page and the Developer exam page, says the Associate, Developer and Architect - Professional exams get updated content from 7 December 2026, with updated exam guides due on 17 November 2026. The question counts and domain weights on this page come from the version 1.0 guides.

Is There a Claude Code Certification?

Not under that name, though Claude Code appears in the exams and in both kinds of training:

  • In the exams: it is one of four technologies the Architect - Foundations exam covers, alongside the Claude Agent SDK, the Claude API and MCP, and a 3.1% domain on the Developer exam.
  • For partners: the Partner Academy runs a Claude Partner Badge: Claude Code path of 8 courses, about 12 hours on Skilljar, that ends in a scenario-based capstone assessment. Pearson’s page says Partner Academy training “is available to members of the Claude Partner Network.”
  • For everyone else: Claude Academy’s Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in action courses carry completion badges.

Claude Certified Architect: Foundations vs Professional

The Architect track has two levels, and they are separate exams with separate fees.

Architect - Foundations (CCAR-F)Architect - Professional (CCAR-P)
What it tests, per the guide”foundational knowledge across Claude Code, the Claude Agent SDK, the Claude API, and Model Context Protocol (MCP)“Whether a candidate “can design, build, and deliver production-grade AI solutions using Anthropic’s Claude platform”
Recommended experience”6+ months of practical experience building with Claude APIs, Agent SDK, Claude Code, and MCP""3+ years of experience in systems architecture or platform engineering” plus “6+ months of hands-on experience with Claude or comparable LLM-based systems in production”
Questions60, framed by 4 scenarios drawn from a bank of 663
Domains5: Agentic Architecture & Orchestration 27%, Claude Code Configuration & Workflows 20%, Prompt Engineering & Structured Output 20%, Tool Design & MCP Integration 18%, Context Management & Reliability 15%7 in the version 1.0 guide, led by Integration at 19% and Solution Design & Architecture at 17%
Fee$125, raised from $99 on 30 June 2026$175
Before you sit itNo prerequisite; the FAQ calls it “the natural place to start”No prerequisite, and Foundations “does not convert or upgrade to Professional automatically”

Sources: the Architect - Foundations exam page and the Architect - Professional exam page, each of which links its exam guide as a PDF, plus the FAQ for the price change and the upgrade rule.

The six Foundations scenarios are published in its guide: Customer Support Resolution Agent, Code Generation with Claude Code, Multi-Agent Research System, Developer Productivity with Claude, Claude Code for Continuous Integration, and Structured Data Extraction. Four of them, picked at random, frame the questions on exam day.

The same guide’s appendix lists the Claude Code features that might appear on the exam, among them .claude/commands/ for slash commands, .claude/skills/ with SKILL.md frontmatter, the CLAUDE.md configuration hierarchy, plan mode, /memory and /compact. Commands and skills at both project and user level are part of the Claude Code setup behind this site, and I have written up how custom slash commands and their arguments work and what goes into a SKILL.md file. The guide’s task statements set the exam’s scope.

For anyone following an old link: the public access-request URL for this exam, anthropic.skilljar.com/claude-certified-architect-foundations-access-request, returned a 302 redirect to the Partner Academy exam page when I requested it from India on 16 October 2026. That page lists the exam at “$125 USD” with a “Register for the exam” button for a logged-out visitor.

Claude Academy Courses: The Free Route Mapped to Each Exam

Claude Academy listed 27 courses on 16 October 2026, and 15 carried a “Completion badge” label. Its home page offers “Free courses, tutorials, and use cases from Anthropic’s education team,” and the eligibility page defines the result: “A Claude Academy certificate of completion records that you finished a course and passed its quiz.”

Three course sites carry similar names, and only one of them leads to an exam:

SiteAddressOpen toWhat it leads to
Claude Academyacademy.claude.comAnyoneCertificates of completion; 15 of 27 courses carry a completion badge
Anthropic Academyanthropic.skilljar.comAnyone; it lists Claude 101 as free to registerCertificates of completion
Anthropic Partner Academyanthropic-partners.skilljar.comClaude Partner Network members, per Pearson’s pageExam prep courses, the Claude Code partner badge and exam registration

The certification terms blur the names further: they describe the Claude Certification Program as “formally [sic] known as the Anthropic Academy”.

Anthropic names public courses for each exam on its exam prep pages: each partner prep course page says “Before starting this course, we recommend you complete” and lists them, and the Architect - Foundations prep list calls its courses “free courses”. Each one appears in the public Claude Academy catalog with a completion badge.

ExamCourses the prep course says to complete first (Architect - Foundations: its whole prep list)Catalog hours, added up
Associate - FoundationsClaude 101; AI Fluency: Framework and foundations; AI capabilities and limitations10
Developer - FoundationsClaude 101; Claude Code 101; Claude Platform 101; Claude Code in action; AI Fluency: Framework and foundations; Building with the Claude API; Introduction to Model Context Protocol; Model Context Protocol: Advanced topics; AI capabilities and limitations25.5
Architect - FoundationsAI Fluency: Framework and foundations; Building with the Claude API; Claude with Google Cloud’s Vertex AI; Claude Code in action; Claude 101; Claude with Amazon Bedrock; Introduction to Model Context Protocol34
Architect - ProfessionalClaude 101; Claude Code in action; AI Fluency: Framework and foundations; Building with the Claude API; Introduction to Model Context Protocol; AI capabilities and limitations21

The hours are the catalog’s own estimate for each course, which I added up; the 11 distinct courses come to 42 hours. The prep page and Anthropic Academy call the Vertex AI course “Claude on Google Cloud”. The Associate, Developer and Architect - Professional exam pages each add a second list of free courses that “go deeper on individual domains”, and it differs from the prep-course list: the Associate exam page’s list includes Introduction to Claude Cowork, for example. Students who want Claude access rather than a course have separate routes, which I checked in what exists for a Claude student discount in India.

Claude Certification Cost in India

There is no official rupee price: you pay the US dollar fee by credit card through the Partner Academy, and by my arithmetic at RBI’s reference rate for 15 October 2026 it comes to ₹9,412 for the Associate exam, ₹11,884 for Developer or Architect - Foundations and ₹16,637 for Architect - Professional, before tax and card charges. None of the FAQ, the certification page, the four exam pages, the exam guides or Pearson’s page shows a rupee figure.

ExamList priceAt RBI’s reference rateAt the 50% tier discount
Associate - Foundations$99₹9,412₹4,706
Developer - Foundations$125₹11,884₹5,942
Architect - Foundations$125₹11,884₹5,942
Architect - Professional$175₹16,637₹8,319

The rate behind both is ₹95.0691 per US dollar, from RBI’s Reference Rate Archive (tick USD and enter the date); the rate your card applies may differ.

Booking from India, as Anthropic’s pages and Pearson’s page describe it:

  • India is not on the FAQ’s list of countries whose IDs are turned away from OnVUE online proctoring: Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, Russia, Syria and restricted regions of Ukraine.
  • Pearson’s page lists a toll-free support line for India, 0008004401837, under Asia-Pacific.
  • The exams run only in English and Japanese, so prepare in English: the FAQ says “Browser translation tools are not permitted.”
  • A managed work laptop can block OnVUE. Pearson lists the domains your network must reach, and the FAQ’s fallback for a device that will not launch the exam is a test center.
  • Pearson’s page links a test center search for the Anthropic exams: enter your city there before you choose a test center over OnVUE.

Rules that can cost you the fee:

RuleWhat the official pages say
Name on your Pearson profileMust match your government-issued ID exactly; on a mismatch “Pearson will not allow you to test” and “your exam fee is forfeited”
Name correctionsEmail certifications-support@anthropic.com at least 24 hours before the exam, in Latin characters only; the FAQ says corrections “typically take 24-48 business hours”
Missing the slot or changing it lateA no-show, or a change inside the 48-hour window, forfeits the fee. Cancelling in Pearson does not trigger a refund either; the FAQ says to email certifications-support@anthropic.com to request one

Is a Claude Certification Worth It?

Behind door 1 the case is easy to make: the tier discounts above halve or waive the fee, three of the four exams count toward the firm’s partner tier, and by Anthropic’s July count more than 36,000 consultants at more than 1,300 organizations had certified since March. Weigh two lines in the certification terms as well: Anthropic may tell the partner you test through “whether you have passed or failed an exam”, and “Certification is not a warranty or guarantee of an individual’s abilities regarding Anthropic’s services in general.” Behind doors 2 and 3 the question waits on access. My view on credentials in general is in my guide to becoming a product marketing manager: build the portfolio first, and treat a Claude Academy certificate as evidence of learning that sits next to work you shipped with Claude.

Claude Certifications: Pick the Door, Then Check the Date

Every fee, format and badge rule on this page applies to one group of people, so start with the door:

  • Door 1: confirm that your organization’s partner record covers your email domain, then compare the price at checkout with the FAQ.
  • Door 2: take the three criteria on the application page to whoever runs your services practice.
  • Door 3: download the guide for the role you want from its exam page, checking that page for an updated version, and work through the public courses mapped to that exam above.

The four-exam program is less than three months old and three of its exams change on 7 December 2026, so treat every figure here as a reading from 16 October 2026 and recheck the exam page and the FAQ before you pay or prepare. If you cannot tell which door is yours, email partner-support@anthropic.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone take the Claude certification exam?

No. As of 16 October 2026, Anthropic's certification FAQ says registration requires a partner email address on a recognized company domain, so only people at Claude Partner Network organizations can sit the exams. Everyone else can take Claude Academy's free courses, where passing a course quiz earns a certificate of completion rather than a certification.

How much does the Claude certification cost?

Anthropic lists $99 for the Associate exam, $125 each for Developer - Foundations and Architect - Foundations, and $175 for Architect - Professional, in US dollars before partner-tier discounts. Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners get 50% off, Global Premier partners pay nothing through 31 December 2026, and a retake costs the full fee again, less any tier discount.

What is the Claude Certified Architect exam?

Claude Certified Architect - Foundations (CCAR-F) is a proctored Pearson exam for solution architects who build with Claude Code, the Claude Agent SDK, the Claude API and MCP: 60 questions framed by 4 of 6 published scenarios, 120 minutes, a pass mark of 720 on a 100-1,000 scale and a $125 fee. Architect - Professional (CCAR-P) is a separate 63-question exam at $175, with no prerequisite and updated content from 7 December 2026.

Are Anthropic Academy courses free?

Yes. Claude Academy's home page describes its offer as free courses, tutorials and use cases from Anthropic's education team, and its catalog listed 27 courses on 16 October 2026, 15 of them with a completion badge; the Anthropic Academy on Skilljar lists Claude 101 as free to register. Passing a course quiz earns a certificate of completion, which does not make you Claude certified.

How do I join the Claude Partner Network?

Apply through the form linked from claude.com/partners. The application page says your company should be a registered business with 10 or more employees, operate in a supported region and offer consulting, implementation or managed services to customers. Anthropic's July 2026 announcement says membership is free.
